Hey, we're the same weight and just about the same height...except I'm ten years younger than you.   For exercise, I use the Wii Fit Plus--to put it mildly, it's freakin' awesome, and costs a lot less than gym memberships.  It has lots of aerobics and strength training with it, and yoga too.  I wouldn't recommend diet pills, though, they can be very very bad for your health.

Hi floopie, if you are looking for easy wins:

- start drinking water, really lots of it, might be even a gallon a day (cut all sodas, if it's bubbles you crave then have carbonated water)
- don't concentrate on calories - focus on having small meals (5-6 meals a day every 2 hours); it's good if each of them contain proteins
- always start your day with a breakfast, it might be your biggest meal in the day; early hearty meal will be like a kickstart and your metabolism will be suddenly in full swing

If you follow just these three advices, I'm sure you will make a big step forward:)

You know, it's virtually impossible to count calories in all the food that you eat. In the long term it's just the question of eating the right group of products. After couple of weeks it becomes a habit and it's no longer a sacrifice!

First thing you need to do is put an exercise program together. Exercise of some kind will help tremendously.  Try walking, just go as far as you can, start out slow and build yourself up to longer distances.  You will be surprised how much better you will feel.

Hi Resume...I have just started walking briskly in the evenings.I have always been a walker anyway but I do it very slowly. This week I have mananged to walk 6 miles or 10 km in between 1 hr and 48mins and 1hr and 55 mins.I do it 3 times per week and combine it with lane swimming 3 times per week.

I don't know if it's normal but I don't tend to feel hungry anymore.I'm not on any of those weird slimming pills or anything.I'm trying to eat like 4 or 5 times per day to get the metabolism going...but without the want to eat it's a  little like forcing myself. In the last week I've lost 4.5 pounds so something is working.I know it will slow but for now it's working.

The best thing to do in your case is probably to start with small steps.  You probably know that fad diets and "quick fixes" don't work, but you also need to realize that it's going to take time to change your bad habits.

Take small steps like first cutting out sugar.  This alone will make a big difference as you will no longer be consuming soda, sweets, etc.

Then you might want to cut out fried foods.  Then packaged foods, etc.

Once you've cut out the obviously bad foods, you would then focus on adding in good things, like fresh produce, lean protein, etc.  Since you've got a lot of weight to lose, you will make good progress with each of these small steps.

Eventually, you want to be at a healthy weight and eating a consistently healthy diet full of lean protein, produce, whole grains, and healthy fats.  You also want to be exercising every day with a mixture of cardio and weights.
