Summer just ended here in the Philippines and whenever summer comes, we make it a point to visit beach resorts and swim to our hearts desires. :)

It is really fun to swim because every inch of your body is moving and this means you'll loose unwanted fats minus its sweaty residue. Swimming also keeps you very refreshed and cool during summer especially in such hot countries like here in the PH.

However, after the swimming, it really left my muscle sore and really very tired. But it's okay, summer is always fun. :)

I was going to the Y to swim laps and it is such good exercise.  I have a back and my doctor told me I needed to lose weight and I needed to start swimming or doing water pilates to help strengthen my back.  It really has helped and I'm swimming everyday.  I'm not sure now how many more laps I need to do in my smaller above ground pool then in the big olympic size pool.  Does anyone have an idea of how much time needs to be spent to burn so many calories?

Swimming is good exercise (that's obvious). Swimming is a lifetime sport that benefits the body and the whole person! But what is it that makes swimming good, specifically? That depends on what you are trying to accomplish.

Well yes. Swimming is the best full body workout after bicycling. I prefer to swim whenever I have the chance and be able to swim either for relaxation or having various exercises that stimulate muscle enforcing. I also use stretching exersises whlie on water.

It burns a lot of calories and lead to weight loss. It is one of those few exercises in which all of your body parts are used.It also increases stamina and balance and also leads to stronger muscles and stronger heart.

Swimming is very good for you, very easy to get cooled off and also to get a tan.
If you are an avid outdoors person, maybe swimming in the afternoon and biking or jogging in the morning.

I think everyone should learn how to swim. Its great for toning up your whole body and is fun for everyone! Swimming is not designed to make you super strong but it is the best way to burn off calories next to running. It will trim the fat everywhere too and you'll eventually end up with a slim figure. I see so many women (not to be sexist but its true) "swimming" up and down the pool for 20 minutes and then going on about how they're not losing weight. Floating and gently moving your arms and legs will not get you fit. Strong strokes and spending 40mins to an hour in the pool is the way to burn off those excess calories. Also doing a variety of strokes - breaststroke, frontcrawl, backcrawl, backstroke, sidestroke etc. are all good strokes for good exercise especially when you do a variety of them. I wouldn't suggest doing butterfly because it is a hard and inefficient that, for regular swimmers anyway, would simply tire you out quicker. I hope this helps :)

Swimming is a healthy activity that can be continued for a lifetime - and the health benefits swimming offers for a lifetime are worth the effort it takes to get to the pool.
